SELF STUDY

How to Understand God (HUG)

The monthly focus is a written excerpt taken from one of Jim and Brian’s talks, with a link to listen to the entire talk. In holding to a one-pointed focus on Spirit, each month we post a new written excerpt by either Jim or Brian. The worldwide monthly focus on Spirit helps us collectively deepen our understanding of God.

May 2024 — LIVING THE BLESSINGS OF LOVING

By JIM GORDON

Monthly Focus ~

Self-study is to study yourself. Begin to understand who you really are…

Believe me, if you begin to do self-study, you’re going to discover a whole different person than you’ve always been dealing with before, inside of you and outside of you.

Spend time finding out who you are.

In ILM, we ask you to do meditation, we ask you to do self-study, and we ask you to look at service. Meditation is what we just did a while back with Brian in the beginning of this meeting – that’s just going inside and holding our attention with God, and sharing our loving with God, and receiving God’s Loving. Start living in that flow of the Divine Loving that we are a part of, as soul, and that allows your soul to begin to awaken, and to come forward, and to manifest itself to you in very, very, very real ways.

Self-study is to study yourself. Begin to understand who you really are. “Why do I say things this way? Why do I think this way? Why do I feel this way? What do I really want? Do I really want all these things I think I want, or is there something other than that, that I really want?”

Believe me, if you begin to do self-study, you’re going to discover a whole different person than you’ve always been dealing with before, inside of you and outside of you. I know it. I’ve tried it. I’ve done it.

As a teenager, I tried to live my life the way all my friends were living. And I hate to say it, but it was awful. It was miserable. It was so unpleasant. And, yet, when I would go back inside and really live my connection with Spirit, with the Loving, with my own True Self, I was always happy in the midst of the storms. I was always there, in my Loving, present with situations to assist as best I could. And my boat didn’t get rocked so much, as I saw other people’s boats getting rocked.

So, look and see what it is you want in your life. Spend some time really evaluating and then begin doing. Action is the reward. Take action, and the reward will be there. If you keep on reacting, you’re just going to get more reaction. You’ll get more reaction stirred up inside of you, and the world will just love to present all the reaction it can, if you just allow it.

But if you take action, the world kind of gets quiet for a moment and goes, “Okay, what are we doing? What are you doing? Why are you doing this? That’s not how I know how to participate with you.”

You can move yourself through situations very quickly and into a better place. You can let go of all those things that cause you disturbance and walk into something where there’s fulfillment, peace, and all that you’re looking for.

And it’s like Brian said, it may not be what you thought you were looking for, but ultimately it will be more than you were looking for, more. Because, inside you’re going to find that happiness, that joy, that peace, that fulfillment in who you are, and living that “who you are” in all that you do.

Contemplation exercise: Contemplate the following statements by Jim Gordon:
